The Strohauser Plate is an island within the German river Weser. It is 470 ha
large and has to present a high density of breeding meadow birds like
lapwings and redshanks. In winter time there are flocks of roosting geese. It
is part of a NATURA2000 area.
Agriculture is very difficult on this island because it is not easy to
transport products from the island to the consumers. 50% of the island is in
use, the others are reeds and very attractive for reed birds. The island is
occupied by a society for bird protection
